Horse saddle being fully reflocked

How often do I need a re-flock?

It’s advisable to have your saddle checked every 6 months as horses change shape due to so many different reasons and I can adjust and top up/rebalance flocking onsite. I also recommend a full safety check and re-flock every 2 years. This allows me to check for any internal faults such as a damaged tree or stirrup bars, damaged webbing and girth straps and broken rivets. With a wool flocked saddle, over time, the wool in the panels can create hard lumps which can cause discomfort to the horse if left.

A full re-flock involves cutting the stitches on the saddle to separate the panel from the tree and seat and then removing and replacing the flocking from the panels. There are several materials that can be used to flock a saddle, I use high quality pure Jacob’s wool for all reflocking. The panels are then stitched back onto the top part of the saddle. A full re-flock involves me taking the saddle away as it’s a lengthy process, I then return the saddle to you and make any final tweaks that might be necessary
